The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on the general public to document their life experiences in writing, saying it would help others learn from their journeys and better navigate life challenges.
Katikkiro Mayiga made the appeal while officiating at the launch of a new inspirational book titled “And then What?” authored by Entrepreneur Francis Kamulegeya. The event took place at Sheraton Hotel Kampala, on Thursday evening.
Katikkiro Mayiga emphasised that everyone has a responsibility to record their personal experiences, noting that such accounts serve as valuable lessons for future generations.
“I encourage everyone to read this book so that they can learn from its contents. I also urge everyone to write about their lives, because our experiences, wisdom, and knowledge must be preserved for others to learn from,” he said.
“When you do not write, you deny yourself the opportunity to reflect on your journey and you also deprive others of learning from you.”
Katikkiro Mayiga commended Kamulegeya for openly sharing his life story with honesty and courage, adding that it was inspiring to see individuals in today’s world willing to document and share their experiences for the benefit of others.
“In this modern era, it is important that we document our experiences for others to learn from. I encourage everyone to read this book and, in the same spirit, consider writing their own stories,” he said.
Katikkiro Mayiga further noted that after reading the book, he was deeply moved by the author’s candid reflection on his journey from humble beginnings in the village to becoming a finance expert who has worked across multiple countries, including Uganda, Kenya, and the United Kingdom.
Speaking at the same event, Kamulegeya said he felt strongly compelled to share his life journey, particularly for the benefit of his children, who have had the privilege of growing up with both parents present. His wife, Sofia Kamulegeya, also praised him for using the wisdom he has gained in life to positively impact others through writing.
The event attracted several prominent figures, including Apollo Makubuya, Christo Kabajwala, Robert Kabushenga, Gloria Byamugisha, and Jackie Asiimwe, among others.
The book launch was also attended by Omulangira David Kintu Wasajja, various representatives of the Kabaka at different levels, and a large gathering of guests from different sectors.
